I always leave it behind, labeled with what room it goes to.
When I didn't need the paint the previous owners left behind, I took it to a recycling center that accepts household hazardous waste. I also recently did that when I repainted a room in my house making the leftover "touchup" paint useless to hold on to.
Here, we can take our paint to larger paint stores for recycling. This isn't at Home Depot, it's at Sherwin Williams or Kelly Moore stores. And you didn't have to buy it at theses places -- they'll take anything.
There is a limit on gallons... but no limit on the trips you can make.
There's a hobo bridge in my neighborhood that's always getting spraypainted. I took some old house paint and painted over most of the junk; now the city's taking care of the bridge.
So we sold our house with the plan of renting for a year and theN moving south next year. That means we still gotta get out of our current house. In order to put the house on the market, we repainted all the bedrooms, bathroom, and living room. Now my questions is what can I do with the unused paint? I emailed habitat for humanity, but they don't take it shockingly. I would like to donate the unused paint so I can't get rid of it so it's less to bring when we move. Any ideas ? ( we live in Hudson valley, NY State)
Charity resale shops like Habitat for Humanity Restore will take it and sell it. You can also give it to the dump, the landfill may give it to others for free.
Latex or water-based paint typically has a shelf life of ten years. Just leave it there maybe the new owner will have something good to use it.
