We have a piece of furniture we'd like to move about 300 miles. It won't fit in a car. Renting a Penske truck is affordable but I don't want to drive a truck.

What's a good way to move one piece of furniture?

Thanks. I looked at uship.com, but when I asked my relatives to measure the furniture, they said it will fit in their vehicle. So now we get a visit, too!

Uship also looked like a good option, though I didn't get as far as what the cost would be.

glad to hear the relatives were gonna take care of it, that's great.

Well with uship, you put out there what you need, and then all the businesses that can do it will send you an email for how much they will charge. You can then pick which one you want (or pass on it, if none are good).

300 miles? Is it between one major city to another, so that there are a lot of people travelling there on weekends anyways?

Try searching Craigslist for guys with a truck to hire for moving items. Sometimes there are ads just for that service. You can even try posting your own ad. There are guys doing this--no insurance, so you take your chances, but if it's just the one item, it might make the most financial sense.

Thank you for the suggestion.
They live an hour from their major city, and I live more than an hour from mine, so people going from there to here wouldn't be plentiful. Since it fits in their vehicle, they will just bring it the next time they visit.

Problem solved!

I've shipped 5 horses and a dog via U-ship with favorable results.
