Back in the day we had "delivery", which meant somebody would drive your car basically for free. But that was when people picked up hitchhikers and a phone call cost a dime.

I have an older friend that still does this. She gets somebody she knows, or who a friend recommends, to drive her car from her home in northern Illinois to middle Florida. She gives them one of her cards for all expenses, then she pays for their flight home. Can't tell you how many years she's been doing this but quite a while.

They do offer something similar to HappyRider is talking about called "drive away" services where you basically hire someone to drive it for you. Sounds a little on the iffy side to me, but I think it's cheaper than shipping. That $1,200 to $1,500 price range sounds about right-I think I paid about $1,300 from Miami to LA. FWIW, I ended up using A-1 Auto Transport but it's not a bad idea to get a few options before making a decision. They were on the affordable end, but some quoted me much higher.

I've had friends drive across country and have their cars shipped. I don't think anyone who had it shipped ever regretted the decision to do so. I believe one paid 1,400 and had it within 5 days of shipping.
