Thank you all for the feedback and encouragement. We will continue to do our best so one of us has employment prospects lined up in advance, but in lieu of that the plan I outlined above seems to be the most viable plan. It’s really about unloading the house so we can be available and jump at job offers when they come up.
Yep. I'm single and I've done this twice. Found a job within a couple of months. A great job with a substantial increase in pay. And, I moved from a moderate to higher COL where I still reside today. When I moved, I rented out my house for a couple of years. Then sold it. Only regret is that I should have kept the house longer because the market skyrocketed shortly after I sold. Now, if I want to purchase again in that area, I'll be doing it at a higher price point. Oh well. It is what it is. But you should absolutely go for it. Once you get the move bug, it consumes you until it's done.

All encouraging to hear. Thanks for taking the time to post. Have also considered renting out our house but prefer not to be a long distance landlord. It’s also in earthquake country so would rather cash out. I do realize this could mean pricing ourselves out of a return to the state, but who’s to say if we returned we’d want to live in the exact same house/area. Glad you went for it and it worked out. We’ve been undecided for months and indecision is a drag. So we’re ready to commit to this, think positive and get it going.
I went from IN to UT, without a job lined up. Sold my house, had some savings, stayed in an AirBnb for a month while scouting areas to live. Then rented a room in someone's house for a couple months till I got a job and everything situated. Now I'm living in a basement apart., looking for something better. I don't regret it, but I am single without kids, so not as much pressure. If you have a decent amount of savings and you're moving somewhere with jobs plentiful, you should be ok.
