I plan to ship my car across country and have been getting quotes from auto shippers. I want to hear from people who have done it. What company did you use and were you happy with them? It seems to be much cheaper to ship it 'open',(vs. enclosed) for those that have, did you have any problems? (except maybe your car getting dirty or dusty). Even if the unthinkable happened, and somebody spray-painted your car or smashed your windows, THE COMPANY would have to pay for the damage right??

I've used both open and closed transport for moving vehicles coast to coast.

By far, the best one and most expensive is Passport Transport... I think FED EX bought them they may have changed the name. They transport a lot of high end cars and exotics... I used them for a 62 Corvette.

All of my vehicles arrived OK. I did have a major problem with one carrier that left my car stranded on the East Coast of nearly a month... it seems that they didn't have the "Right" rig to go across the country... anyway... it ended up costing me almost double...

I've used both. My husband's car always goes enclosed and mine goes open. We usually use DAS, and they've always been, well, dependable.

The only difference between the 2 cars is that mine usually needs a good debugging when it arrives. And it arrives at our destination sooner when traveling on an open carrier, as they are more common and therefore have more of them on the road.

Ultrarunner, you are correct; FedEx bought Passport Transport a couple of years ago.

Why? It seems to me that it's the carrier's fault, they should eat the cost.
