-I picked up the awesome Beauty and the Beast dog bed today.
-I have an appt for the car check up.(23rd. They're closed next week for vacation)
-My HR lady is on leave this week (off course) so the stand-in said she's awaiting approval and my start date will probably be Aug 20.
- House exterior is almost painted (looks great). Realtor will be by tomorrow to list it, even though there are a few things left to finish.
-starting to think about my driving route.

I see medical was mentioned. If only tweezers, neosporin, bandaids to protect against infection.

Also some sort of cleaning clothes for yourself and dogs for any cuts and to get off them any sand so it doesn't scratch them, say, some falling between toes.

Sunglasses extra dark. Sun hat.

Sun protection cream.

No flip flops in the hot sand or pavement.

Remember your phone charger. And phone with good reception.

Don't say oh, I'm short on water, I'll get it next stop. Always have a lot of water.

If you have a sunroof, keep the inside cover on. Look into sunblocking shades for the side windows that allow you to see out just fine.

Don't let the dogs snife out anything in case they get hurt.
Edited to add: The commute from China Lake to El Mirage (nothing, nothing, nothing there) is longer than from China Lake to Tehachapi. I think that you might love it there! Reddog53

This! Live in Tehachapi and work on EAFB. We have contracts at China Lake. It has been very hot and dry. Please drive at night, if you can, ensure that your pups will drink water when on the road. I had to take their water from home and use their customary bowls. Pavement is burning, melting hot on little pads. Keep an eye out for rattlesnakes when you take your pups out to potty. We have had multiple bites and I have had rattlesnake aversion training and rattlesnake vaccines for both Papillons and the Golden Retriever.

Not to scare you, but just to be aware. Welcome to Cali! (Soon).

Warm regards,

Reddog53

Thanks Dog! I'm going to live as close to base as possible.
Looks like my trip across will begin about the 12th of August...maybe a little sooner.
I postponed the realtor. I rrreeeeaaalllyyyy want the rest of the work to be complete. Ugh.

On a positive note about that, the later you leave the sooner you'll have cooler fall weather when you're living there.

So true. Or at least a shorter time of "hell fury" weather.

Chipping away at the organizing/packing, mostly focusing on the clothes that will go in the car with me and some kitchen items.

I'm debating "sell it or ship it" on the furniture... Leaning towards selling.

And if it doesn't sell, donate it or put it in the trash. I'm going through that now myself. If you have solid wood stuff, consider keeping it, but if it's that pressboard stuff, move it out. It can only be moved a limited number of times before it falls apart. I moved my couch across the room the other day, and the leg fell off.

Found a great place I sincerely hope is available when I get my start date. I submitted an application (no fee) anyway. It's perfect.

Finally got word the relocation expense reimbursement was approved. Yay. Now my "losing" HR has to approve my release date. Hoping to be on the road Thursday.
