Just wondering what people provided for professional loading help when using U-Pack ABF trailer for a long distance move? and hiring someone such as Firefighters on the Move to load.
I assume things such as blankets/pads, rope/twine, rubber bands/strapping tape etc.? We will have most of our items boxed except for bedroom dressers, mattress/springs, bed frames and living room furniture will not be prepped prior to the loaders getting there. As well as odd things such as a wheelchair, large lawn ceramic pottery, vacuum cleaner, ladder, etc.
I am planning to rent 4-6 dozen pads from U-Haul (was told I can return them at a local office at destination) for the loaders to use but what are some things I don't want to forget about? Also, I think I need to get a padlock for the barrier in the truck between the space we use and what is not used once everything is loaded.
First time we have ever moved long distance, we have used professional movers before but the move was short... less than 20 miles, so anything hard to "pack" we just put in the car and made a couple of extra trips.
We moved about 500 miles and used POD’s and hired one of there recommended movers and had a medium furnished three bedroom house that required two POD’s and we ended up using about 24 moving blankets that I purchased from Amazon.
They were medium to good quality and think it was worth the price to purchase them since there’re always useful around the house for misc use. The movers actually used all of them along with some old blankets.
Professional movers are great at properly loading to utilize every crevice to save space and to ensure furniture doesn’t shift and get damaged while being moved.
I could have never loaded a container that well, it is an attained skill like most other trades❗️
This last move (about 4 weeks ago), my movers brought mattress boxes to protect the mattresses. You might see if that is a possibility.
Thanks... I will check on that, I know I can buy some mattress "bags" that can be used but boxes for the mattresses and box springs would work well too..
Watch your loaders like a hawk. Do not ever let one walk out of the house unless someone has him in sight. Last time we moved, the loaders stole ALL my tools, including all my pottery tools! I bet they were disappointed when they popped that tool box open and found nothing but cutting wires and pointy things used to make patterns on the clay. Over $1000 worth of tools, stolen.

Get some rolls of plastic wrap, the kind they use to secure palette loads. That will come in real handy. Much better than tape.
Trust me on this I moved cross country using two full 26 foot abf trailers and towed a 20 ft enclosed trailer with a pickup truck, moved all the same stuff plus extra 2 years later.
The plastic is worth it.
According to the website and phone call it is $5 a 1/2 dozen. I am not sure if there is a time limit with that such as a month, a week, etc. In our case I would need them about 10 days or so. They said we could return the blankets to U-Haul at our destination.
