I thought I saw a thread on this awhile ago but I can't find it now. It could have been somewhere else.

We're planning to downsize in a few years and I want to get rid of a lot of stuff before we move. I don't want to try and sell things myself or have multiple yard sales. I've tried selling a few things previously and it never seems like its worth the effort. Plus, at least around here everyone make lowball offers.

I'm looking for companies that will buy everything in a lump sum that we don't want to keep (several bedroom sets, dining room stuff, maybe kitchen wares, etc.)

Any suggestions?

The yard sale pros and similar used furniture dealers.
But they won't give you very much for anything ...let alone for taking everything.

IF (a big IF) your stuff is objectively valuable a CONSIGNMENT shop is likely to get the best retail price
for any one item but you'll have to accept the discount and then wait some while to see any cash.

Unless it is top quality for pennies on the dollar used furniture does not sell well. Give it to someone who needs it.

Yeah furniture is always tough but it’s also ridiculously dependent on the market. I don’t know why, I never figured it out, but it could be that more transient places have a huge oversupply of unwanted furniture. When I tried to sell $1,200 custom made display cases in LA for $100 I couldn’t sell more than one of my eight. I gave the rest away to a contractor friend of my agent when I sold the place. I got like $75 for a $600 couch. But when I’ve sold things in Portland I had no issues getting $75 for $200 shelves or $500 for a $1,200 couch. I got maybe 40% of value for everything I’ve sold up here and struggled to get 10% in LA. That’s with multiple moves in each city at different times too so the sample size was enough to make me wonder.
