We will be moving in June. However, we need to be out of our own house in mid may, and will stay with relatives for a few weeks. I just called Pods and got a price from them.
Anyone else use any other company like this. We normally move ourselves, but this time we are moving from NY to Pittsburgh.

Just make sure that unattended mobile/portable containers can be dropped at both locations. It's against the law in many communities in New York and Pennsylvania to place them in the street.
Since you're only going 450 miles, a full service mover will probably be cheaper than a container company. Freight carriers usually have much higher transportation rates on short runs.
I did the ABF thing, it was great! I loaded it (you can even hire a couple of movers from a local moving company to help load it/unload it if you need to), rented some moving blankets from Uhaul, ABF picked up and dropped off, no problems. Nobody pawing through my stuff, nobody parking a moving truck in the middle of nowhere (as some companies claim 'others' do). I even had an upright piano in there, strapped to the back wall and it came back fine. I'm probably going to move soon and will probably use ABF again.
I need to move a lot of stuff across the country, and I want to use a pod type service in which I pack it and they ship it. I figure an 8' by 15' or similar size container would work. The problem is I can't find any company that goes to Maine. Anyone know such a company? I've also heard varied reports of how reliable companies are. One thing I read said that even though everything was inside the compartment, everything got an oily film on it. Anyone know about this?
You're not going to find too many DIY container options going to Maine. The lack of significant inbound or outbound volume makes it cost prohibitive for most carriers to offer the service.
Check out ABF's U-Pack ReloCubes. They are smaller than the other mobile/portable container products but allow you to ship multiple units.
