We just made a long distance move to Pittsburgh. We closed on our house before we were able to find a house due to coronavirus. We are renting until we find a house we can buy. We plan to leave most of our stuff packed in boxes ....we sold most of our furniture before we left last location so not much furniture. We are seniors so won't be doing the lifting ourselves and will pay someone to move for us. We are looking for the most cost effective way to have our belongings (mostly boxes) transported locally. Any suggestions welcomed, thank you!

There are two ways to do this. You could hire a local mover or you could rent a UHaul or Penske or Budget truck or Pod container (whichever is cheaper) and hire labor to load it and then unload it. We've done it both ways. Although a bit more expensive, but not by much, to hire a local mover, it's the least stressful, and I would do that rather than hire just the helpers.

Whitelotus you mentioned in your post that you were looking for the most cost effective way to do the move but please keep in mind that the stress that comes along with hiring movers who might not be properly insured or licensed has a cost too. I would definitely go with local licensed, bonded and insured movers. It will likely cost a little more in dollars but these are your belongings that are being moved and having peace of mind during a very stressful time has value too. We've done local moves over the years and we always used professional movers. The cost was not terribly high. During one of the local moves a desk that was (and is still) very important to my husband was damaged. The company had a furniture restorer come to our house within a week and they took the desk to their shop and repaired it to a level that it hadn't been before the damage! We still have that desk and my husband uses it every day.
