I just went through this same situation with our cross country move. Because our move was delayed due to the restrictions in some states, we went past the 30 day hold timeframe. I called the Post Office in the new town we were moving to and was shocked and pleased when a real live person answered the phone. I explained the situation to him and he said he would put a note in their system and hold the mail for us until we called again with our expected arrival date. At that time we were still uncertain about when the restrictions would lift enough for us to travel.
When we were about to start our road trip, I called the new Post Office again and got the same gentleman. I told him the date we would like to have our mail delivered and on that date, all of our accumulated mail was delivered! So going by my experience, I would suggest calling the Post Office in the new town you'll be moving to and hopefully you'll receive the same kind of service that we did.
