I want to get a recliner. I have lived at my apartment for a year, but have nothing to sit on in my living room, because I do not have a truck or anyone to help move it.
I am not paying $200+ to move a chair from 10 miles away. I want to buy something used, either from someone online or from a thrift store. How do I get it home? I live in the Tri Cities, in WA.

When you shop, make sure that delivery is included. The cost should be nominal especially if you shop locally. Another option is to shop on Facebook’s Marketplace or Craig’s List. Again, make certain that the seller will deliver it for you.

Thrift stores do not deliver and most people off of Craiglist/ FB Marketplace will not, either.

Rent a Uhaul or other moving company cargo van. Probably less than $50 total. Make a friend to help you move it.

You could also put your own ad on FB Marketplace or similar for someone to move it for it for cheap. I know people in my area will do that sometimes.

Could you put an ad in a local paper asking for help from somebody with a truck? Will pay gas and labor. If you're not far from the thrift store, I bet $20-$25 would do it. Of course not if they had to haul from another town or something.

Local handyman service? Some do rubbish removal so for a fee they should be able to pick up a recliner.

Purchase a recliner where the back is removable with a few latches (Lazyboy for example). I have a PU truck but it has a hard shell bed cover so when I picked up a recliner (Lazyboy) I just pulled off the back and was able to put the bottom in the bed, the back in the backseat.

Delivery guys around Raleigh charge generally $75 within 25 miles. Ask for names at a consignment shop, a new furniture shop, or even a discount furniture place. But realize it usually requires two people and 25 miles means an hour or two of their time plus truck.

You can ask on NextDoor if a neighbor would be willing to help. You might find a teen who is happy to do it for $25. Sometimes there are high school/college students posting there too asking for odd jobs.

Home Depot has a deal where you could rent one of their trucks for $20 for 75 minutes, with additional charges after that.

You have to refuel before returning, but if it's just a 20 mile move for you roundtrip, you aren't talking big bucks.

They come apart.
Slide the back up off the seat. it'll fit in the backseat or trunk.
