I figured when I posted this initially that truck, car carrier would be the cheapest options. I could use that as a basis, and figure out what made the most sense. Moving company, pods, shipping my vehicle.
Advertise locally that you will pay someone gas, meals, hotel rooms, 100.00 day and 500.00 plus plane ticket back to portland/seattle if they drive your car, following you.
The other thing I wanted to mention is how difficult it is right now to get rid of stuff. Not as easy as pre covid. I gave away a bunch of stuff I had meant to get rid of before the pandemic. I wish I had tried offer up vs. craigslist.
All the people that took stuff were all nice, normal people. But because it is craigslist I refer to the people as crazy craigslist people. It would have saved me oodles of time if I could have took the stuff to the dump. I don't think they have dumps in Seattle.
Still reading through the thread but have you tried using Facebook Market Place to sell stuff. I have had some good success with it. However I have had a dresser listed for a while and got no bites. I agree with your Craigslist assessment.
Find out how much the U-haul rental + gas is going to cost. Then compare with Pods and similar. Remember you need additional hardware to tow a car.
I think you will find it surprisingly expensive.
By the way- the nicer areas in Connecticut are also expensive. The not so nice areas are...run down and can feel dangerous. I once stayed in Bridgeport overnight and they recommended that I not leave the hotel after dark.
Whoever told you that exaggerated like hell. I lived in Bridgeport a few years ago, close to a theater and planet fitness and had no issues.
CT is expensive, though, especially the taxes, but it's lovely over there. I drove more often because the highways and parkways were so inspiring.
