We drove a 26 ft U Haul from SC to AK and the only state that required us to stop was SD. When we ran into that we googled it and sure enough, SD requires rentals to stop. We only knew to stop because the light went off that was to go to the scales. He pulled in and they cleared him, never even had to stop so while some states may require it, I don't think there is much of an issue to worry about.

As I recall, Kentucky, Ohio, North and South Carolina, Texas and California were the toughest on truckers when rolling through the weigh stations. I remember being ticketed in Kentucky because the unit number of my truck wasn't big enough for Kentucky DOT regulations! As we both know, there is no such thing as "violate now, pay later"! I made several "courtesy trips" to the local magistrate/justice of the peace to pay my fines! The alternative was the "graybar motel", that would be jail folks!
thats insane, im a new truck driver and thats what i dont want to get fine so i really checkedthe wigh of my truck
