I've got an antique piano that I need to get moved from Texas to Kansas City. Can anyone suggest some companies that can do this? Thanks!

If this thing is really valuable it can definitely be worthwhile to hire professionals. An older Steinway can cost as much as a house!

If the piano's value is mostly sentimental it may be better to find someone that would appreciate locally.

Somewhere in between regular movers will be fine. You need to get a piano tuner to check it BEFORE and after so that if there are any damage claims you have documentation. Even cheap pianos can cost A LOT to repair...

As a professional musician and piano tuner myself, I say this... you can move the darn thing in a pickup truck if it'll fit. That's how I got my Yamaha upright piano from my in-laws' house to my house. Just make sure that the driver of the truck drives carefully.

Figure that you will have to tune it after the move... and I agree that you should get its condition and function documented before the move if it is an especially expensive or collectible piano. If it's a $500 junker that you're getting for nothing, then just take your chances.

Alternatively, you might hire Laurel & Hardy Moving Co:

and the most classic of all:

YouTube - Music Box
