Originally I was going to put all my stuff in storage for 1 month, while I looked for an apartment and job. The cheapest place I found for a place that will hold my stuff is 100/month. I'm having second thoughts about this plan. I hate paying to have my stuff held in storage while I look for a job and apartment. Is there a smarter way to do this? I will be in Chicago on Sept 2nd. I have the truck until the 5th. It seems that by putting things in storage i'll be wasting money as I will obviously have to hire movers to move it right back out of the storage. Am I missing a simpler more logical way to do this? I didn't want to rent an apartment sight unseen.
It sounds like this is the most economical way to do it. Another option would be to find someone who would allow you to keep your stuff in their garage. I am not sure if you know anyone in the Chicago area but this would be the cheapest way.
Look at it this way, if you move into an apt. sight unseen, with all your belongings and then hate it , you will have spent way more than $100 for the month, and then you will still have to move your stuff multiple times. Take your time finding the right place and move once. Hopefully by the time you move your stuff out of storage you will have some buddies to help you. Good luck with the move!
