anyone know of a place online where I can find a reputable person or company to help me move. I am alone and I would need at least one other person to help.

I recommend placing an ad on Craig's List as well. Of course, it depends on how much faith you have in a stranger, but I would THINK that the majority of people responding to ads are sane. I've responded a few times to ads there helping people move, just to pick up some extra cash. I've we lived in the same area, I'd be willing to help ya out.

Not real familiar with craigslist........so do I look under the state, and city I am in for someone to help me move out of state? ..........Or do I go to the state I am planning on moving to and look for someone that will come and get me from the state I am in now?

Oh it's out of state? Hmmm, well that changes things a bit. I'm not sure why it didn't dawn on me that you were most likely moving out of state. Well, truthfully then Craig's List may not be your best bet. If you were to do it, I would say look under the state/city you are moving to and say "need someone to help me move on this date..." and then converse via email with the person and let them know a day, time and place to meet up. The problem with this however is that it relies on a stranger and if moving to another state, then it's possible for problems to arise on your end with schedules suddenly being thrown into the wind and with you losing your mover in the process. It's a bit risky.

Have you tried calling employment agencies to get day labor?

Where area are you moving from & to? Be careful if you use Craigs list, don't let a stranger come to your house if you're alone. I would use a company, it's safer.

I used the U-Haul mover website:

U-Haul: Moving Help moving labor service

I hired a couple students in my building to load the trailer on the front end. They were cheaper than the U-Haul quote for Santa Clara (which was higher than the quote for Redding).

I used the U-Haul movers to unload at the other end. They showed up on time, and did a decent job. This was in Redding, CA and it was just $100 for 2 guys for 2 hours. I thought that was amazingly cheap.

Agree with NoSnow on Uhaul - craigslist is such a dart throw with weirdos, scammers and other criminals.

At least on Uhaul site they have some established credibility (although the guys who come out won't necessarily be top 10% )

I used em recently and they worked fine.

Good luck with your move!
