This should be updated. If you move with Allied and are given a Total Price Guarantee, or a Guranteed Rate Reduction type move (which most COD moves are priced this way) then an unexpected shuttle at desination is NOT paid for by the customer. This unexpected charge at destination will NEVER be expected to be covered by the customer.

And you are correct. A United Agent in Boston may not have good reviews, but the United Agent in Florida may. I truly feel the BEST way to choose your mover is to ask your neighbors. Go and ask who moved them into their home, or call friends and ask them. Once you find out which SPECIFIC agent moved them, then call them directly. Don't call the vanlines 1-800# you find on their website becuase you don't know which agent they will refer you to.

Recently did a long distance move. Vetted several moving companies...mostly national brands, and chose the one who addressed my needs and concerns specifically. They were about 20% more costly than the cheapest bid...which IIRC was from United, but it doesn't really matter.

We moved lots of high end furniture, and were very concerned about it even having ONE mark on it when it arrived at the new destination. In order to help ensure this, in addition to VERY secure packing...padding, blankets, and plastic wrap on each piece, the mover agreed to use the same crew on the unloading end as he used on the loading end. No 'loaners' from the local office of the franchise, or day laborers picked up from the street.

He paid the cost of their hotel, which i am sure was in the price. We took them all out to a big italian dinner for the night between days of unloading the truck. Our stuff arrived in pristine condition, it was a completely stress free move, and everyone parted with a feeling that the five days had gone extremely well on both sides.

Not every mover will do this with the crew, but for us it really sealed the deal.
