I have a 42" flat screen TV and was wondering if anyone has tried shipping that (USPS, UPS, Fedex??), or should I try and sell it before I move? Any idea how much would it cost to ship? Thanks.

I don't know cost but it's based on weight and I would DEFINITELY INSURE it! What brand is it anyway? The cost might be too much,where it might be better to sell it.
It's a Samsung 42" Plasma TV. I don't have a lot of stuff to move and probably just shipping a couple boxes of clothes, books, etc. The only big item I have is this TV. Sounds like I might have to sell this then.
I looked for a way to ship mine to Ca., but for a different reason. We bought a Polaroid 42" TV in June. It quit in Jan. I called them and was told we didn't have a service tech in our area (that surprise anybody?) so we would have to ship it to them. They would pay the UPS shipping fees, but we had to have it packed. Those UPS shipping stores won't pack TVs. We found a store here who will pack it in a wood crate for $250! Went to a local repairman whospent two weeks trying to get info from Polaroid on the part he needed. Come to find out Polaroid has filed bankruptcy. We ended up finally getting Walmart to let us turn it in for another TV. I think it would be easier to sell it and buy another one when you get there.
I shipped a 44" big screen across country, and it arrived in pieces. They told me it was the shippers fault, it should have been packaged better..! When something heavy falls on it, doesn't matter how well it's packaged.
I lost the value of the TV, and had to fight like hell to get them to refund the shipping charges...
If you are going to ship a TV, unless you want it to be broken along the way you have to have it crated. We do this kind of stuff all the time. You can ship it via UPS or FedEx and it will be fine, if it's packaged properly and that means crating. Even if you have insurance, both UPS and FedEx will deny your claim unless you had proper packaging. Also, if it's crated you can send it ground and not have to worry and it will be cheaper for you.
I've been considering moving out of state. I just bought a big screen TV, and I've saved the box to protect it during the move. Of course nobody will benefit from my suggestion if they've already thrown the box away, but if you're in the same position as me, considering moving and also buying a TV, save the box if you can. Then you can ship it if you want, or be more confident that the movers won't break or dent your TV.
When moving a Plasma TV, they CAN NOT be layed flat, should be crated and will more than likely be damged if you try to ship UPS or fed ex,
