Im moving into corporate housing across the country in a few weeks. My thoughts were bring your clothes and everything else will be provided in the corporate housing. Have any of you lived in corporate housing and forgot to pack/bring something that you just didnt think of?
Just make a list of what you use day to day and go from there. One thing we missed were certain kitchen gadgets and cookware (we enjoy cooking). They'll provide the basics including linens and a stocked kitchen, but nothing else. They'll probably have a tv but perhaps not a dvd player, a scant alarm clock, blankets but not your favorite, etc. The last time we lived in a corporate it was for four months with 4 kids, 2 golden retrievers, 2 cats--and we survived.
Usually like a Residence Inn type place. You should have the basics but w/o personal touches. Cookware wont be extravagant but functional for basics. Stuck w basic cable usually, but its quite doable. Dont worry, think of it as a couple months free rent.
It can be expensive....depending on the area. But it really is a much better idea than moving quickly and regretting where you end up. Extended Stay Hotels are a great idea for someone wanting to check out an area. Sure, it isn't 'Home' .....but it'll work and you'll be comfortable.
I'd agree about the specialty cookware. Expect a few pots and a skillet maybe a baking sheet and a casserole dish but not much else. If you plan to cook or bake bring what you need for the type of cooking you enjoy. Bring your favorite coffee mug, especially travel mugs.
Another thing I would bring is your own pillow. They will provide them but they always seem to be too hard, too soft, too flat, etc.
Electronics will likely be just the basics. If you want to listen to good music bring your own stereo. Might want your own alarm clock. Definitely bring your computer.
Lots of this depends on how long you’ll be staying. If it’s just a few weeks I probably wouldn’t bring much extra. If it’s going to be months then I would want more of the comforts of home.
Bring a toaster oven - most extended stay hotels don't include ovens...just a stovetop.
