There are plenty of good, well qualified movers in NYC - and just as many scammers. The Greater New York/New Jersey metropolitan market is one of five geographic areas acknowledged by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration of harboring crooks who like to steal from consumers. Many use their low, low, rock bottom budget pricing to entice customers into their lair.

It's best to obtain at least three in-home visual surveys and then check each carrier's credentials at the FMCSA's Protect Your Move website before signing anything.

You might consider starting you search at the Long Island Moving & Storage Association website at Find A Mover You Can Trust When Moving From or To Long Island, NY

I am moving as well, next week, an interstate move.

First I googled long distance movers, then looked at ONLY at nationwide carriers....they are said to be best prepared for the long distance, and any problems that might come up...

Allied's office in my area was in recent yrs Allied's Winner for superior services for all of US. So I lucked up...

There is a website that will show reviews of movers...just type that in, reviews of movers.

DO NOT USE INTERNET MOVERS or anyone who does not come to your home to give a quote.

Lastly, look back in threads re moving. I asked the same question a few weeks ago and got some VERY helpful responses.

GOOD LUCK~gbh

Bekins has a pretty good reputation I would recommend them, but actually more than anything I'd recommend the BBB to help you find a mover with a good reputation.

I found movingscam .com when I was searching & found a lot of useful info there, though the site isn't done very well. I've recommended it several times now. I've heard a lot of mixed info about the bbb from different sources so I don't use them except to further confirm info gathered elsewhere. Haven't actually moved yet, & we are going the diy route anyway so can't recommend anyone in particular.
