We are moving, but will in a rental for a 3 month period between homes. We are going to be putting the majority of our furniture in storage while we are in the rental. Does anyone have any advice on storage? Is it better to use storage with a moving company or self storage? Either way we will need the moving company to bring furniture to self storage and out. any advice would be appreciated. thanks!

Lots of movers refuse to deliver or pick up at self-storage facilities. Call around and ask, you may not have any real option.

At times, I have done both and been happy with both. I suppose I preferred the mover's storage a little more, because I didn't have to worry about the condition of my belongings or paying monthly fees--it was included in my delivery move fee, and the movers were quite reputable and reliable. Of course I had no access to my belongings during that time. But I liked the tidiness and simplicity of it.

Self-storage has worked when I needed it, and offers the advantage of personal access, to both retrieve and add. But I also had to do my own storage facility selection, sign the contract, pay the monthly fees, make sure the unit was dry and safe all the time, and coordinate access with the movers, etc. There were a few times I needed to retrieve a few things, so that was a definite advantage. And there's the advantage that if you need it longer than you think, you can just keep paying.
