Albany and Syracuse are among my favorite cities
They're not well known nationaly though. I'd say Buffalo is the most "well known" on that list.

known or well known? If most of those cities aren't known by most of the country, you really don't know much about the USA. Well known? Now that's a different story.

Many people would know all of these, but Binghamton would be the least likely to be known....and the poll reflects this so far..

I know of them all, but I am big time into geography. On a national scale however, I chose:

Buffalo - Large city, everybody should know of Buffalo, NY
Scranton - Mid sized city, infamous for The Office
Hershey - Come on, candy, duh!
Harrisburg- Capital of a State. Everyone should know all our 50 Capital cities
Syracuse - The Orangemen, and a bigger city
Rochester - RIT and a bigger city + Kodak I think..

For the average person, Buffalo is probably the most well known b/c of the Bills. Then probably Syracuse b/c of college basketball, then Scranton b/c of The Office.

I don't think the other cities are well known by the average person outside of their respective region. Most people don't know state capitals and the rest are rarely in the news or national spotlight for anything.

Why did you include Rochester, Minnesota in a list of Northeastern cities?

It depends on which region of the country you live in. On the east coast (northeast corridor), most people will know about Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Albany, Erie, Harrisburg and Hershey. In other places in the U.S., I'm not so sure.
