Ummmm...you DO know that the places in the South where most people are moving are quite built-up where people don't have to drive that far for the most basic amenities, right?
No, he doesn't know that. He knows nothing, clearly.
No. Not everyone. You might get that impression reading this forum some times...but there are plenty of people...in fact an over-whelming majority; who have no intention or desire to move to the south from the north.
I'm a boomerang. Moved south from Upstate NY, stayed for 13 years, and moved back home.
On C-D, there are plenty of Northerners looking to move South because of
1. Jobs
2. Cost of living (Jeez, the houses you can buy in Houston for a tiny fraction of the cost of cities in the North, wow)
3. Weather (I don't get this whole "I want to move somewhere warm, I can't take the winters anymore" thing, but a lot of C-D people are like that).
In real life, I don't think the percentage of people moving South is really that big.
I personally would never move to the south. I know more people who have moved to California alone than all southern states combined. That fact may be different depending on who you talk to, but I don't know too many people who have moved to the south. Most of the people who I do know who have moved down south did so in retirement and spend 4-5 months a year down there, namely in Florida and South Carolina, and the rest of the year up here in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
Some people have had to move to the south because of the higher cost of living in the north. Then, once they've had a few years of work under their belts, they move back north.
Older people move to Florida in the winter and come back to New England in the summer. Not too many people want to be in the south in the summer.
I have relatives who have had to move south but I never knew anyone who actually wanted to live there if they'd had a choice.
Does every Northern person wanna live in the South? No. But a lot of us are forced to due to high costs of living, crappy weather, and all that. I'm in Atlanta now because I can live like a king down here.

No, not every person wants to move south. We wanted to move to be near my aging folks, to get a better climate and more sunny days, and to improve the quality of our lives (health issues). For us it was a good move, but it's certainly not for everyone. I think all of us have to find that place where we feel at peace and comfortable. When you find that place you are truly at home. Best wishes.
