Just wondering what people's preferences are as far as living near the coast. I am indifferent...I could live near the coast, but it's certainly not a requirement.

What is your preference and why?

Yes, I really enjoy living near the ocean and being able to see it everyday. I don't really know why I like being by water so much but I just have this kind of claustrophobic/isolated feeling when being away from a large body of water .

Water is magic, very fundamental to life. The river running past my home contains water that has been on every continent, been through redwoods and the rain forests and in the blood of dinosaurs and has fallen as snow. The American Indians said "The blood of our grandfathers runs in the river" and they were right.

Moving water is soothing. The sound of the surf, or the sight of waves lapping on a beach will drop your blood pressure 20 points within a minute.

When the river freezes, we spend time by the water down south where it isn't frozen.

But it comes down to personal preference. I HATE the desert, love water. Some people are exactly the opposite.

Absolutely.

In fact, the only reason I originally decided to stay in Chicago was because the place I was staying at the time was extremely close to the lake. Had the apartment been more western, I probably would have ended up moving.

My new place here in Chicago is right on the Chicago River, so even though it doesn't have a lake view, I get my daily fill of water each day.

I love Colorado, but because of how I was raised; I spend at least three months a year 500 yards away from the ocean in So. Cal. The ocean and mountains are the s..t.. I am moving back to the beach in less than a week..Places like Hollywood,NYC can kiss my A.... been there sone that.

I like humidity but even at the coasts down here in Texas (where the water is warm and swim-able!)
I get bored at the beach after a few hours. So...I prefer the woods and hills up from the beach!

I don't think many people will say they just don't want to have a visit to the beach as an option.
Maybe some will, because of tsunamis or fears of flooding or something?
