I cant count the number of times I saw people drive there Yukon XL's or Ford Explorers to the end of the driveway to their mailbox and back up the driveway again. My parents home was on a 1/2 acre lot and most of the homes I saw in surrounding areas were on property about twice that size or more (hence my 1+ acre comment).

An acre is a HUGE lot for any home and would be very cost prohibitive. Developers usually don't subdivide such large lots so they can build more houses. Again, an acre would be a very large lot...one like you might see out in the country, not in the suburbs.
These houses are located in Country Club of the South:

I grew up in a suburban area...and I have never seen anyone DRIVE to the end of the driveway to get their mail unless they were already headed out. I have always noticed a high amount of pedestrian activity in subdivisions...people there walk for excercise, walk their dogs, walk to neighbors' houses, walk to the lake or the park, they run for excercise...they certainly don't stay locked up in their houses for the most part.
