Interstate 70 from Ohio to Colorado is mostly just farmland and open prairie outside of the cities.
Yes, on that route you go through St. Louis and Kansas City to get to Denver. It gets pretty isolated in Kansas, hard to find even a gas station sometimes, let alone a restaurant.

I've done the trek from Columbus to Indianapolis, and THAT part is miserable, so I think you're in for a long ride, but the good news is you get to see 3 big American cities with tons to offer: Indianapolis, St. Louis and KC (and Dayton if you want to).
