I have spent a lot of my time in LA over the years and there is definitely a So. CA accent. Keep in mind California spans quit a bit of the west coast so things change as you head North.
Went to California this past winter break and my friends so does have the California accent. They can tell that I'm not Californian gal by how the way I speak.
I am not talking about transplants. I am talking about native Californians!
You mean Native Americans? Because almost every white Californian and most of the Mexican Californians can trace their ancestry to various parts of America and Mexico in just a couple of generations. That is where California's unique accent derives from. The greater Los Angeles area itself, the epitome of how we define southern California's culture, including its accent(s) has grown almost 1,700% (17 times) since my grand-parents were born and they are still walking.
I am not talking about transplants. I am talking about native Californians!
Um... all three generations of them?
