.The Philadelphia region lost 37 percent of its manufacturing jobs from 2000 to 2010, according to a study that found that 99 of America's largest markets lost manufacturing jobs over the past decade.
The region had 291,300 manufacturing jobs in November 2000, according to the study by Buffalo Business First, a sister publication of the Philadelphia Business Journal. That figure had dwindled to 184,200 this past November. Only four regions lost more jobs, but 36 regions lost a higher percentage of jobs.
Bakersfield, Calif., is the only region that added jobs, according to the study, which was based on data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The Los Angeles area suffered the worst 10-year decline in manufacturing, losing 301,600 jobs in that sector. Six other markets were hit with six-figure losses: New York City (down 276,000 manufacturing jobs), Chicago (down 227,500), Detroit (down 207,700), Philadelphia (down 107,100), San Jose (down 105,500) and Boston (down 104,200).
The 100 major markets, taken as a group, lost 3.44 million manufacturing jobs during the 10-year span, the equivalent of 943 per day.
