We have decided we do not like Los Angeles anymore and need a change. It's nice because my husband and I can do our jobs from anywhere. Here's what we are looking for:
-East coast (or similar feel)
-great schools (public or private)
-safe
-nice/large homes (big enough to raise 5 kids and a dog)
-good amount of land (don't need acres, but enough for a large house and room to play)
-good sense of community (knowing your neighbors)
-small town
-not a tourist location
-good amount of culture and activities to do while not being a large town
price is not an issue
i have always imagined living a "pottery barn" life
we really like westport ct if you need an idea of what we are looking for
In suburban NYC consider Ridgwood and Montclair in NJ. Also Tarrytown and Hastings on Hudson in Westchester County north of the city. Bedford, Tuxedo Park if you want to live a bit farther out in westchester.
Ithaca NY....Think of a smaller Berkeley, but with more of a nature based vibe. It's very diverse, has good schools, has 2 four year colleges and more: Visitor Info | Visit Ithaca
You might like some other communities in Upstate NY like Lewiston, Clinton, Skaneateles, Cazenovia, New Paltz, Mayville, Brockport, Fairport, Corning, Trumansburg, Ballston Spa, Plattsburgh, Glens Falls, Sackets Harbor, Oneonta and Owego, among some others. College towns might work too.

I must warn you ......coming from Los Angeles...you will experience culture shock at its best........Are you sure you want to do that?...You wont have the diversity/amenties that LA offers/things to do/etc....if you don't desire those things...then Charlotte, NC welcomes you.
