I currently live in a city with about 1500 people. About 4 hours from a city of 100K+.

I like it that way.

In California, towns/townships and cities are the same thing. Other than that we have communities. The smallesr community I have lived in is my home community and it used to have 2,500 population and then in 4 years went to 4,600 population and now it's at 7,600 population. The nearby cities have 29,000 population and one with 28,000 population. My community is considered to be the nicest with a Trader Joes, hospital, wineries, and the best high school around with the best football team. The nearest city with 93,000 population is 50 minutes away and nearest city with 50,000 population which is a college town is 30 minutes away.
