I would love to live in New York but it's just to expensive rent wise for me. What other cities are similar to this and not spread out like LA or San Francisco and are affordable?
LOL...If San Francisco is spread out, then Toronto is more spread out.
the bronx is the most affordable, but consult supamario or kony on that...some of the "affordable" areas could be (read: probably are) in rough areas. i'm talking about places under 1000, by the way.
queens is def next in the list. again, define affordable. even in jamaica you're looking at 1200 a month for a one bedroom and its like an hour commute to manhattan via the e, f, j or z train...its not even worth it IMO. you could find better closer to manhattan...maybe astoria (also in queens)? the prices can be better and its closer to manhattan. the n or q train gets you to manhattan in like 15 min or so.
but again, how much are you willing to pay per month? do you have a job lined up? do you have a degree? etc.
you could sublet. but is that something you're willing to do?
Based on what you're describing, there are only a handful of cities in the US that would even come close, and none of them will quite match NYC. Your best bets are probably Chicago, Philadelphia, Boston, DC, and San Francisco, and the last 3 of those are are still very expensive in terms of rent prices. I can't really comment on other Canadian cities since I'm not that familiar with them, but I don't think any will be on the level of Toronto.....maybe Vancouver, but I doubt it would be cheaper to live there anyway.
I love New York and Toronto! I love the fact that you can walk basically anywhere without having to take the subway or bus if you live in the downtown area.
I love the hipster trends, trendy shops, urban culture, and multiculturalism.
I love that they have a "little india", "little italy", "Greenwich village", "queen st", "little jamaica", "little greek town", ect..., all within the city.
