......when you see row houses and mid-sized apartment buildings and grit and grime......and you're still 25 miles away from downtown (I'm thinking Chicago in this example).
You have to brag about it on City-Data and act like mid-sized metros are the boonies.

you can get food, beside pizza, delivered to your house
there are always somes stores open on Christmas
you dont see high school sports coverage on the local tv news
you can hail a taxi on the street instead of calling one up
