Lansing Michigan is not that bad, but its not all that great either. It is the stereotypical dull midwestern small city. Grand Rapids would have made a much better state capitol, the city is more attractive and more interesting.

I can't exactly disagree since I haven't been there, but all of the photos I've seen of Frankfort has seemed lovely and charming. It is one of the state capitals that was actually founded and planned as a state capital.

I can say that about a bunch of cool cities that aren't particularly exciting when you look from the interstate. Savannah and Asheville come to mind immediately.

I'd say you missed an opportunity. I went there once on business. It's not Times Square, but it has some charm:

It's spread out, sprawling, and poorly kept. If the residents took care of their properties and the county did something to clean up and run off all the trash, it may look more appealing.

next time you come through, you should get off the ramp and come and visit! I wouldn't want to live in any other place!

Columbia is the only other city that I know that qualifies. What are some others?

Maybe most of the kinds of jobs in state capitals require maturity and experience, and capitals are mainly inhabited by grown-ups, who don't mean the bar scene or the music scene when they say "what's happening here".

I had a blond moment, LOL. I remembered that shortly after I typed it but didn't get a chance to go back and edit the post.
