Just to clarify this thread a bit, these aren't actually Miniatures of cities, but a type of trick photography/photoshop that makes real scenes look like they are miniatures. (Notice how the "miniature" pictures all have a bit of blur around them? That's to help the illusion.)
It is a very neat trick, and leads to really fun images.

Yeah, I was just about to say, "you guys aren't catching it...". That's why I had miniatures in quotes. It's the same thing you see in old [adult swim] bumps where they took shots of Atlanta and Japan and turned it into this.
