That area is quite conservative. In fact, Southern California on the whole is surprisingly conservative, particularly north San Diego county and Orange County. I recommended Oceanside specifically because it's basically just a huge military town next door to Camp Pendleton, and as I understand it, Carlsbad is where many officers choose to live. San Marcos and Escondido are other good options. Escondido is actually one of the most conservative cities in the nation and I would suspect that Poway is similarly conservative. The areas in the east part of the county I don't know much about but I hear San Diegans refer to places like Santee, Alpine, Temecula, etc. as being "redneck".

San Diego county on the whole is much, much more conservative than where we currently live (Minneapolis-St. Paul). We are relocating to north county at some point within the next year and still trying to figure out precisely where, but Encinitas and Solana Beach are the primary candidates right now, which I understand to be areas that are moderate to slightly left-leaning.

As I understand it, the further south and west you go in San Diego proper, the more liberal it gets but San Diego is very moderate compared with a place like Minneapolis, Portland or Seattle. There is a massive military presence in SD so I'd think you might be very comfortable there.

I agree with you, I love San Diego. And did you mention church? There is a very good church with David Jeremiah, you may be familiar with him, he is on television. The weather is beautiful and if I could afford it, I would move there, but I don't like condo's ( have 3 little dogs and a cat ) don't like going inlands too much ( it can get really hot )

Perhaps you'd get better info in the Military Life folder.
