Hello All !

I need help with suggestions on places to visit on my BIG road trip. I am planning on a road trip from Dallas, TX to New York, NY and then back to Dallas, TX in 2 weeks. I need help in finding “touristy”/popular/worthwhile spots along the route and in the rest-stops. Please help me (I can always google it, but I would like to get suggestions on places worth visiting from locals or from people with experience.)

Day 1: Take I-30 E from Dallas, TX through Little Rock, AR towards Nashville, TN (rest)
Day 2: Continue on I-30 E through Knoxville, TN towards Washington DC and Baltimore, MD (rest)
Day 3: Go to Philadelphia, PA and then to New York City, NY (rest)
Day 4: NYC
Day 5: NYC
Day 6: Drive to Providence and Boston, MA (rest)
Day 7: Drive to Buffalo, NY and then to Columbus, OH (rest)
Day 8: Drive back through Cincinnati, OH to Dallas, TX

Total hours: 59 hrs 3 mins
Total miles: 3599.81 miles

Driving for 11 hours a day are you going to have enough time to see anything along the way?

If you are interested in music you should plan a stop in Memphis.
Hit Beale Street if you are there in the evening. If you are there during the day you might be interested in Sun Studio, Gibson Guitar/Factory, or Graceland - Elvis Presley

A lot of people enjoy visiting the National Civil Rights Museum

Memphis is also famous for barbecue Ok locals, tell me where the best Memphis Barbeque

Blue Ridge Parkway is a scenic drive, Luray Caverns has a lot of wow factor,Shenandoah Valley is quite scenic and has many historical points of interest,,Washingtons Smithsonian is a memorable visit. In NYC the Aircraft carrier Intrepid museum is a hoot
But as DubbleT suggested your schedule is too tight, not sure when you will have time to do all this sight seeing..

In Buffalo, check out Elmwood Village, Hertel Ave. and Allentown. Parkside Candy might be a good place to: Parkside Candy - Creators of the Finest Candy since 1927 - Parkside Candy

The Elmwood Village Association
Buffalo Niagara Convention and Visitors Bureau lists Buffalo Attractions and Accommodations

Allentown Association

Hertel Has It!
Hertel-North Buffalo Business Association, Inc.

The Anchor Bar or Duff's for some good wings: Duff's Famous Wings

Anchor Bar - Home of the Buffalo Chicken Wing

For small town America, East Aurora would be nice to visit: Village of East Aurora
GREATER EAST AURORA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

A quick trip to Niagara Falls, Lewiston and Youngstown in Niagara County would be cool too.

Along the way in Upstate NY, you might like to check out Howe Caverns near cobleskill, the Herkimer Diamond Mines in Herkimer, the Turning Stone Casino owned by the Oneida Indian Nation off of Exit 34(I think, Rome/Verona exit of I-90), the Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota, Sylvan Beach not too far off of I-90, Syracuse's Armory Square, the Women's Hall of Fame in Seneca Falls, Geneva, Canandaigua, Rochester's Park Ave. and Southeastern quarter of the city, Darien Lake Amusement Park near Batavia, the Jello Museum in LeRoy and much more.

True.... Lark Street and the State Capital in Albany would be nice to visit as well. Dinosaur BBQ in either Troy, Syracuse(original) or Rochester would be a good place for a meal: Dinosaur Bar-B-Que - Dinosaur Bar-B-Que

In Utica, Hemstrought's Bakery, where the half moon cookie first was made, would be worth picking some up.

If I was taking that route I would certainly make adequate time for Washington DC. At least add a full day for DC. Also the mountains of Virginia would be on your way, get off the interstate and drive the back roads around the Shennandoahs. I would allow more than a day if you are doing both Providence and Boston. Rhode Island's best attraction is Newport with it's ocean beaches, mansions, and quaint nautical seaport downtown. Honestly though don't bother with New Englkand if you are not going to make time for it, a day is just not reasonable to cover RI and Boston. Head upstate after NYC.

My Favorite area in Upstate NY is Ithaca, it's awesome there. I think it's better than seeing the cities anyway. There is an impressive number of waterfalls in the area, some with natural rock pools at the bottom that you can swim in. Plus impressive geology with many rocky gorges, steep hills and the Finger Lakes. Also Cornell University is there which gives the town character.
