Hi, I am getting married in August and we are planning a vacation in the last week or two of August. I am looking for some decent ideas. Our first choice is Hawaii, but I would like some other suggestions. We have already ruled-out Vegas. We want to vacation only within the 50 states. I would like to hear if anyone has any good ideas. Thank you.

I would suggest the northern tier of the country, Vegas and Hawaii are a lot more appealing at other times of the year. August is perfect for New England (seaside like Maine coast, Cape Cod, Marthas Vineyard or Nantucket), maybe the Pacific Northwest (the sun comes out and stays out in August), or National Parks out west, the Rockies, heck even Minnesota lakes, or August is also a good time for Alaska. That's what I would have in mind for the month of August.
What strikes your fancy? What kind of activity or R&R are you looking for? Is this a honeymoon?
Thank you. I guess you could call this a "honeymoon" but it does not have to be a traditional type of honeymoon. We were thinking about the Pacific Northwest. She does not want to go to a large city. Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing some parks, boating or that kind of thing.

San Juan Islands in Washington State are beautiful with some great waterfront hotels. Plenty of boating around there including Orca whale watching and the scenery is fantastic. Orcas Island is really nice, lots of B&B's, nice hotels, rural & tranquil, ample boating opportunties from rent a boat, kayaking, or whale watching, and some beautiful parks on the island itself. There are also 3 national parks in WA: Olympic, North Casacades (close to the SJ Islands), & Mount Rainier. The San Juan Islands are magical though, and probably among the best vacation spots in the Pacific NW.
