Look at Denver if you want to go out west. Affordable housing, great public transportation, very walkable, great climate, reasonably gay-friendly.

I was born in Oregon but my parents weren't. They felt shunned the entire time they lived there. My family moved when I was 4 and none of us have ever gone back.
