Has New York always been this overcrowded? It seemed less overcrowded years ago.

Yep, unlike Houston, DT Miami is right on the coast. Worse of all, its suburbs are also along the coastline. They cannot build inland because the of the swamp. Hurricanes also come through Miami and the rest of Florida before landing at their final destination along the Gulf Coast. Just downright unsustainable.
