What are some small towns you've been to outside the traditionally Hispanic areas of the SW and Florida that have large Hispanic/ Latino populations?

One that surprised me is Monroe North Carolina, population 30,000; located just outside Charlotte. As of 2009 it is 30% Latino.

Funny story: I recently stayed at the Super 8 motel in Monroe. On Sunday morning I looked out my window and saw a bus with "Banda Azul Tequilla" painted on it. Googled them, they just played a concert in Monroe!

Facebook

Here in Kentucky our small town that is most Hispanic is Shelbyville (located btw Louisville & Frankfort. It's 19% Latino as of 2009.

Dunkirk(13,000) and Amsterdam(18,000) in Upstate NY are about 20-25% Hispanic. Both of those school districts have websites in English and Spanish.

Allentown, PA:
Quote:
As of the 2010 census, the city was 58.5% White, 12.5% Black or African American, 0.8% Native American, 2.2% Asian, and 5.0% were two or more races. 42.8% of the population were of Hispanic or Latino ancestry.
That's a lot. Though it's not really a small town.

A 42% Hispanic population is a lot, especially considering that Allentown is a lot closer to Canada than it is to Mexico or the Caribbean.

Lawrence, Mass has an alarmingly high Latin population:

Quote:
According to the U.S. Census Bureau 2010 Census, the city's population is 76,377, the population density is 10,973.7 per square mile (4237/km²), and there are 27,137 households (25,181 occupied). The racial makeup of the city is 42.8% White (20.5% non-Hispanic), 7.6% Black or African American, 2.5% Asian, 1.3% American Indian or Alaskan Native, 0.1% (57 total) Hawaiian Native or Pacific Islander, 39.3% some other race, 6.5% two or more races, and 73.8% of the population is Hispanic or Latino (of any race) (U.S. Average: 12.5%).[24]
I knew it was high, but didn't realize it was that high.

Apparently in the 2000 census, the city was 22% Dominican and 22% Puerto Rican.

Siler City, North Carolina - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Hispanic or Latino of any nationality comprised 39.33% of the population. The community's Hispanic population is projected to reach 52.3% by 2012, which is due partially to illegal immigration and has spurred on both anti- and pro-immigration rallies in the town.[4]"

I was recently in Lawrence visiting a friend (who ironically is Irish/Italian). Very interesting place. Seems it has fallen on hard times but I could tell it was once a bustling little city.

In addition to Allentown, PA there is nearby Reading, PA with a population of 88,000 with 58.2% being Hispanic.
