To clarify for each state as I did with Hawaii:

Eastern Washington most definitely, but could stay on the western side for a home in the San Juan Islands. Maybe an area inland from the Oregon border off the Gorge, perhaps around the Trout Lake area.

Interior Alaska around Fairbanks or North Pole, possibly Delta Junction, or the Mat-Su area, possibly even Eagle River, Anchorage, or on the Kenai Peninsula.

Not sure about Montana, but the Kalispell area looks very nice. I'm sure I could find a lot of others though, it is the least researched for me right now of the states that appeal to me.

Northern California around Yreka, Redding, or Shasta. Tahoe area of California looks nice though too. I've only been to LA. No thanks!

Years ago, I would have jumped at the chance to live in Arizona - a state where I spent a lot of time as a child (mostly in the north around Flagstaff).

Today? I'd never live there. It's become a totally different place, much nastier and hectic, and the xenophobia level has become disturbing.

It's just not the same place it was 30 years ago.

All 50. There's something I could enjoy in each one. In an alternative universe, I would love to try and live at least one year in all 50, just to claim I did. I think it would be a remarkable experience.
