That reminded me--I had a co-worker (from Bayonne) who used to refer to the bags of food from the grocery store as "the bundles". For example, "My husband won't help me bring in the bundles after we go shopping."
Those two words do not rhyme. They are dawg and ahn.
Wut y'all tockin' 'bout? "don" and "dog" and "on" all have that ah~aw sound. 'Round here "father" and "bother" rhyme, "cot" and "caught" sound exactly the same, and just north over the San Bernardino Mtns. "pin" and "pen" do too. But for me - raised in suburban southern Cailfornia - father, don, dog, and on should all have the same merged ah~aw sound. But the way i say "father" is something like FAH-thur with the same vowel as in "spa" (not rhyming with "paw"), but "bother", "cot", "caught", "don/Don", "dawn", "dog" all have the local merged ah~aw sound. Anyhow, as for the rest:

Hmmm, have never heard anyone say "father and bother" don't rhyme, but maybe someone has a different take on that...
LOL, on "Don" and "Dawn". I recently had someone give me the name of someone attending a meeting, and they said the person's name was Don...I was expecting a man, but it turned out it was a woman named DAWN--they just pronounced Dawn like Don. Musta been a Californian.
Anyway, your post demonstrates perfectly why we can never start using phonetic spellings in America!

On the "greaSy" usage she must have been Yankified reformed.
Amen on INsurance, icebox (or frigerator, no "re"), and sack.
A bag (or suitcase) is something you put your clothes in for a little trip.
