Most urban forums have one. City-data.com is unique and lesser for not having one imho.

Perhaps you shouldn't assume City Data is strictly an urban forum. In fact a great number of CD forums have sub forums devoted to the major urban centers within states. The main state forums cover large areas which could hardly be described as "urban".

Discussions about transit systems in a certain area are best included in the relevent sub-forum, while more general transit threads would fit into the General US, Canada, Mexico, or World forums.

I understand your point, Conerguy, and probably I should have said "transportation" rather than merely "transit" which would cover the whole range of transportation options within cities.

I realize that whole states are covered in this forum, and that's great. But remember, the title of this website is "City-data" and while small towns are important components of this site, more people seem interested in bigger cities (given the bulk of the comments, even in the general forum) and the large cities in each state have their own sub forums. The creation of and availability of quality mass transit is such a key component to healthy big cities, esp to young people who usually move to cities on limited budgets, may opt to not own cars while, simultaneously, being very aggressive in terms of accessing city arts, entertainment and restaurant services. Younger folks also tend to be less hung up on issues of race and ethnicity which, sadly, keeps too many people in this country from using mass transit even in the face of high gas prices and shortages...

... I just think it may be an oversight by City-Data.com as most any other similar website has a transportation and or transit forum. Some even have several.

Maybe not transit, per se; it's a good point that transit is usually city and region specific. If someone is relocating and has questions about transit, that person would probably just post specific transit queries to the city forum in question.

But perhaps a more general forum about walkable, bikeable, transit-oriented cities could be useful. Which cities are rethinking their planning in this regard? Where to live if one doesn't want to own a car? Personal anecdotes and advice for and from people who are scaling back car use. Reasons for doing it, how to go about it, where to move, and so on. Just a thought.
