Ain't that the truth. It's really horrible from Henderson, NC to Petersburg - an hour and a half of driving with only seven exits that have anything more than a gas station within a mile of the ramps. In fact, several abandoned gas stations dot the terrain. Speaking of which, who was the genius who decided to make that interstate in Virginia with trees so thick in the median that you can't see the road going the other direction except at exits? Add that to going through three counties with a cumulative population of just 78,000, plus next to nothing on terrestrial radio stations, and you're in Boredom Alley, buddy.

It's pretty dull both sides of the state line, but much worse in Virginia. Oxford and Henderson are pretty small, but they're not terribly small. Same story with South Hill in VA, but after that, it gets pretty remote. It doesn't seem like there is a ton of interaction between Raleigh/Durham and Richmond anyway, despite between two and a half hours apart or so which isn't terrible. In this case, the highway never feels terribly busy to me. Maybe I'm wrong, though. I only travel on that road a few times a year or so. There are much worse in both NC and VA, but wow, definitely Boredom Alley.

PA for me. I live in PA, but grew up in NJ. Going/coming back on trips just seems to be agonizingly long through the state. Probably has to do with the anticipation of getting somewhere, or the eagerness to finally be home.

Texas would be my second choice, but only did that one once.

Florida isn't that bad. There's a lot of beauty here actually, but I'm on my way out. Too hot for my taste!
