I don't understand why Dallas, tied for 2nd to last place, is THE fastest-growing major metro in the country if (apparently) it's not very popular! I wonder if popularity and growth are in fact negatively correlated...
I chose:
Minneapolis-St. Paul
Chicago
New York
San Francisco
Wash. D.C.
I suspect I'd also love and could easily be in my top 5: Boston, Toronto, Montreal and Philly, but haven't been to them yet.

Because Dallas is still growing. All the cities doing well have matured a long long time ago.

Well 2/3 of the growth in Dallas' metro was from hispanics. There was huge growth, but it's not like all that growth was from other Americans going there. There are many many reasons why a place might be growing, not just cause it must be popular for everyone.
I can see much love for the northeast in which I can respect, but how can someone not add Houston to the list? Also Dallas is growing & maturing at the sametime, it a literally change from what it was 10 yrs ago into a thriving metropolis.
I'm surprised Ottawa and Quebec made it but not Calgary.
