While Seattle has the strongest soccer fan base, I think Philadelphia (Union) is notable for being within the Top 5 franchises for attendance within its first two seasons. Per capita, it definitely beats the LA area. It will be interesting to see if it can compete with Seattle level attendance in the coming years.

Philadelphia Union: 19,254

Wanted to point out KC Sporting is at near capacity and sells out most of the games. Its attendence that you show is around 600 empty seats.

And KC Sporting would have beat the Sounders if it wasn't for us being down one of our best players =/

just sayin... just sayin =P

The PNW has the best soccer culture in USA.

The youth leagues are one the largest in the nation and they have ton of public fields to play at.

Also they have several indoor soccer fields and of course the sounders definitely add to the mix.

I wish we could get rid of the NFL, back in the 60's through 80's it was very respectable, lots of tough guys, Buttkus, Lambert, Nagurski, Czonka etc. but now its a bunch over hyped cocky loud mouths who have don't deserve half of what they make often times. Same goes for the NBA
Come on dude, you sound like a bitter old man. The NFL culture is far from perfect, but you sound ridiculous. Players are bigger, faster stronger, and yes, louder (for better or worse). The players you mentioned were great, but the game was much slower back then too. It's just the further evolution of the game.

P.S. How did you connect your typewriter to the internet?

They also get arrested and convicted of crimes way more often nowadays. I simply have nor repect for a good number of NFL players and find it appaling they were demanding even more money while our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq risk their lives everyday for less than 10% of what they make.

There is a reason children across the globe, and increasingly in America too, are looking up to teams like Barcalona, Man United, Arsenal, Marseille etc. rather than the Patriots, Giants, Cowboys or whoever.

I love college football, so it's not like I hate the sport, but when it comes to proffesional sports I'd much rather watch soccer or the NHL over the NBA or NFL easily.

They sure do. No question about it. But there's also a lot of great people in the NFL too.

Really? You've got a very odd way of looking at things. So do you hate the ownership groups of every sport which are making billions of dollars each year? Do you hate anyone who makes more money than the troops?

Whoa, whoa, whoa...so you're talking about what great role models soccer players are? Guys like Christiano Ronaldo are known to have crazy coke-fueled sex parties, frequently use prostitutes, and spend excessive amount of money. Plus they make more than the troops!

Well to each his own I suppose...

The thing in is soccer a players value is market driven. There are no minimum wages. There is no reenue sharing. In fact soccer is much more captitalist than the NFL and NBA. Therefore, players who barely play can't demand the exorbitant salaries bench players get here. If your not good the team can cut you at any time.

Your interpretation of role model varies by culture. Sure there are soccer players who have sex with prostitutes (legal in most European countries), party, do drug (which people all over the world do), and spend money however very rarely are they a danger to people other than themselves. Many in Europe have much different attitude towards sex. I agree with them. Violence is much worse.

Ray Lewis and OJ Simpson are two football players heavily linked with murder though neither was convicted. Plaxico Burress shot himself in the leg. Can't count how many times Pac Man Jones has been arrested for various violent altercations.

I can't think of one EPL player who has been arested for a violent offense in the past couple years.

The Bengals have had 4 in 3 weeks

Again...I'm not claiming all football players are great, but not all of them are horrible. I'm not buying your selective role model thing here.

Anyways, anyone have any idea what area of the USA is soccer most popular, possibly even surpassing football in popularity?
Seattle.
Football (not handegg) is the greatest and most watched sport in the world. It's a fact
