Washington DC

New Yorkers dress nice, but so many more of them dress too street. All races in NYC dress very street.

DC is more business suit types, not very fashionable. That isn't what the OP is talking about. They DO dress "nice" but it is pretty black/white, not fashionable.

OP... you would want to look at NYC, LA and Miami... those are your top 3.

NYC, LA, and Miami are going to be 1, 2, and 3.

The rest of the cities in the US can be reigional fashion capitals (places like Dallas or Atlanta or Boston), but NYC, LA, and Miami are world wide for fashion.

Thank you, I concur.

I think DC dresses too conservative. The style is very rigid, uniform and conformist in DC unlike the unpredictable fashion melting pot of NYC where everything and anything goes. You see much more interesting and individual fashion choices in NYC. But afterall, DC is the nation's capital. DC is about the business of running the country, so looking professional all the time is a must. However, the native Black population in DC , especially the younger crowd, dresses drastically different from the Brooks Brothers wearing set of Northwest and Capitol Hill. The younger Black crowd dresses very bright, colorful, vibrant, retro 80's/early 90's and urban in a unique quirky way yet still upscale and up to date with the times. Younger Black DC natives dress much more street (yet distinctly different from NYers and other cities) than the transplant yuppies who have good jobs. This is a good example of what a teen or 20-30 something Black DC native might wear:

In DC, you have the conservative/business dressed yuppie crowd and the younger Black crowd that dresses like DC rapper Wale and not much in between. In NYC, you have so many different types of people and style period. The vast majority of successful fashion brands are based out of NYC, not DC. Sorry, NYC is not just the fashion capital of America, but the world because American fashion is the most popular fashion in the world currently.

LA in terms of more expressive/trendy fashion. NYC in terms of high-end fashion. Both cities have either kind of fashion. I would give the nod to LA overall, fashion in NYC seems confined to Manhattan exclusively.

In LA, people are generally more style conscious as well. NYC has more fatboys.

Any city with modeling industry is going to have more fashion, Miami and Vegas have quite a bit too. In other big cities, you can find it if you look for it, but it's not as common.

Interesting...but why would you spend $175 on a pair of jeans when you can get a pair that looks somewhat like them (or at least presentable) for $40 or less from T.J. Maxx? (The jacket, on the other hand, seems reasonably priced, albeit on the high end)

Women can dress well for cheap, much more difficult for men. Designers typically put more thought into lunch than men's clothes.
