Okay.. I really appreciate the info, guys.. But I'm wanting to know more state versus state info, even into the last two to five years so I can get an idea of their fluctuations/growth rates/changes in rates/etc... We'll be looking at actual towns later, elsewise I would've posted in the City vs. City subforum.
Looking at tax differences last year, TN seems to be one of the more expensive of the group, MO definitely the least so (and perhaps the poorer of the states we're looking at), with IL and KY somewhere in between. I referred to IN to help get an idea of the surrounding area taxes.. The greatest things we dislike about IL is that there is no death penalty, no concealed carry, and Chicago.. So a move to the farther-southern portion of IL seems likely, perhaps along the borders with KY and TN, if we stayed in IL. Thoughts?
You forgot to mention the Missouri Bootheel more. Places like Dunklin county, Pemiscot county. Rural counties and the warmest area of Missouri, and the most southern too. Its culture is that of AR, Eastern TN, and MS.
I see Louisville, KY is on that map and I think you should really look into that city. It's a really nice town. By the way, thanks for sharing that link for that website. Really cool, I'll definitely be using it lol.

Missouri is definitely not as poor as Kentucky or Tennessee. It's about average for the U.S. Not as rich other Midwestern states like Illinois or Indiana.

Tennessee has a high sales tax and tax on groceries!

No state income tax and generally low property tax. Generally ranks as one of the lowest tax burdens of all 50 states. See link to map I posted upthread.

I don't know about that, tax on groceries really adds up after a year, plus the sales tax is quite a bit higher than states surrounding TN.
