So I'm thinking of moving here from California. I'm 34 years old, single. My parents moved 3 years ago from here to Tennessee. I'm looking for a city where its easy to find a job (I work in construction), good public transportation, alot of outdoor recreation, a low cost of living, decent wages. I have narrowed my choices down to these cities....
San Antonio, TX
Austin, TX
Portland, OR
Albuquerque, NM
Raleigh, NC
Boston, MA
Which of those following cities do you think would be best based on my criteria?

Low cost of living and outdoor activities? plz rule out Boston... unless you consider shoveling snow and de-icing your car to be an outdoor activity.
I'd say Austin is a good choice, but I don't know how many construction jobs there are, since I'm not in the construction field. Raleigh is another nice chocie, a lot of people move to the Carolinas and love it. Honestly, all your choices are quite good. If I had to remove 2, I'd get rid of Boston and San Antonio just to narrow it down.
Portland seems to be a good mix of the things you like as well, but i've personally never been to portland. Closest I've been is seattle.

Actually of all of these choices (despite the cost of living) I would recommend Boston. It has an unemployment rate well below any of the other choices (6.4%) and construction wages in the $28 per hour range. There's always building and rebuilds happening in a big city whereas sunbelt/medium-sized cities typically cycle through periods of work and no-work and offer non-union wages ($15 an hour). Boston is 50% more expensive than Austin for example but the wages are nearly double, plus access to union benefits like health insurance and 401K/pension. Construction jobs in a vast majority of the country don't include any benefits. Public transportation superiority is a no brainer for Boston over the other choices. Boston is also a city that's big into outdoor recreation with it's parks, greenspace and rivers as well as beaches or winter sports as close as 30 minutes away.

well we offer all winter sports unlike the others on the list (besides portland). there are 4 Wonderful rivers, and the Atlantic ocean in the City of Boston for recreational use and Chealsa Creek (its large). As well as the harbor Island National Rec. area, unique to the nation.
And Downhill skiing is just outside city limits, about 6 miles from Downtown Boston.
